The story follows Holden as he leaves school and travels to his hometown, New York City. There he encounters a series of interesting characters and experiences, which exacerbates his emotional decline. Holden, overcome by his extreme behavior, tendencies, and feelings of isolation, reaches a breaking point and forced to receive treatment for his condition. This is a story of a young man holding onto his innocence, while grappling with the effects of mental illness.
